Five subdivisions—Briar Lake, Southlake, and Ashford Village I, II and III—make up South Briar, located in west Houston between Buffalo Bayou and Westheimer Road, just east of S. Dairy Ashford Road. Built in the '70s, the more than 800 houses and townhouses are a diverse mix of architectural styles.
Briar Lake has the highest median square footage at 2,304, with Ashford Village having the highest median lot square footage at 8,640. Each of the subdivisions average three bedrooms and two baths. All are zoned to Houston Independent School District and governed by the South Briar Community Association, which enforces deed restrictions. Residents can serve on a variety of committees to support the subdivisions and their neighbors.
Residents and their guests have access to the South Briar Recreation Center. It includes a clubhouse, available for private events, and a park with playground, tennis courts and pool. The youth South Briar Barracudas Swim Team practices and competes at the pool.
While not in the Energy Corridor proper, the community sits just to the east and offers a short work commute to those in the industry. The corridor's many shopping, dining and entertainment options are also easily accessible. Downtown Houston is an 18-mile trip via Westpark Tollway or I-10.
Outdoor enthusiasts appreciate the area's many recreation opportunities, including biking, hiking and boating at Terry Hershey Park to the north and George Bush Park to the west.
